King Island
Beginning at your local club/meeting point, we'll hop on a bus to your closest major airport. From here, flights have been arranged to get us to our island paradise. Once we've touched fown, we will be met by our local guide and driver for the trip.
Based out of Currie, the main town on the island, we will enjoy a full day tour to the North on day two. Highlights of today include Yellow Rock Beach, Cape Wickham, and the wreck site of the convict ship 'Neva'. But the day is not done yet, as we continue on to Penny's Lagoon, Martha Lavinia Beach, and King Island Dairy.
We will focus on the south of the island for day three, visiting the old mining town of Grassy, where we can see a disused scheelite mine site, and stop at the Kelp Craft shop for a quirky souvenir. We continue past Pearshape Lagoon, and visit the Calcified Forest, home to the remains of 7,000 year old trees that have been turned into calcium carbonate. We will close out the day with visit to the huge cliffs at Seal Rocks, and then our guide will tell us about the wreck of the 'Cataraqui' and historical monuments dedicated to one of the worst maritime disasters in history. Lastly, we will stop at the Huxley Hill Wind Farm, before returning to our accommodation late in the afternoon.
On the final day of our island getaway, we will meet a meet a local beef producer, and find out while King Island beef is so special. We will also explore Currie a bit more, including the Currie Museum at the old lighthouse keeper's residence, where we can learn about the Currie Lighthouse that was shipped out from England in 312 pieces! After a couple more interesting island sights, it will be time to make our way back to the airport, where our friendly local guide will bid us farewell on our return home.
